Obituary for William Florence Benton

William Florence Benton joined his Heavenly Father on July 29, 2017. Born March 18, 1930, in Monticello, Georgia, he is survived by daughters, Ginger Rivera (Mike) and Jill Ferguson (Mike), 5 grandchildren, Julianne Rill (Joe), Michael Rivera, Katie, Andrew (Sara), and Michael Ferguson, a great granddaughter, AnnaReed Rill and his sister, Betty Benton Hardeman. and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Benton served in the Korean War in Japan. He spent the majority of his work life in the retail tire and hardware business in Winder, Georgia.   He and his wife retired to Brandon, FL in 1999 to be near their daughters and grandchildren.

In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking. He especially enjoyed making toys for his grandchildren and fulfilling woodworking requests from his daughters. He also enjoyed volunteering with “Three Men and a Preacher“ doing handyman work at St. Andrews United Methodist Church where he was an active member.

Services for Mr. Benton will be Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 2:00pm at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Brandon, FL with the Reverend J. C. Powell and the Reverend Tim Machtel officiating. The family requests memorials may be made to the St. Andrew’s Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
