Rhett Thomas Harper was born May 6, 1971 in Batavia, NY to Thomas and Kathy Harper. Rhett passed away on January 26, 2021 in Brandon, FL. Rhett is survived by his wife Nicole Harper, parents Thomas and Kathryn Harper, Brothers Kyle (Alice), & Bryce, Godfather to Nephew Charlie and Niece Sally. Rhett grew up in Darien Center, NY and went to Alden Central High School where he graduated in 1989. He worked several summers at Six Flags Darien Lake where he developed an affinity for riding roller coasters. After high school, Rhett attended Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Rhett was a member of the Triangle Fraternity and graduated from Rose-Hulman in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Rhett moved to Florida after graduation to begin his engineering career at the Florida Department of Transportation. He worked as a professional engineer for 28 years and was employed at Jacobs Engineering at the time of his passing. Rhett loved bird watching a passion for which he picked up from his father as a boy. Rhett traveled near and far to find new species of birds. In 2020, Rhett traveled to 21 States to see 500 birds and was ranked 46th on eBird list for North America. Rhett enjoyed sports and traveling, going so far as England to see his beloved NY Yankees. He also was a fan of the Buffalo Bills, was a season ticket holder for the Tampa Bay Lightning and enjoyed watching them win the Stanley Cup. Rhett enjoyed golf, trivia, and gambling. He was extremely lucky, as he shot a hole in one in golf, could beat the house at blackjack and won a truck on a slot machine in Reno. He was known as Rhett-a-pedia at Trivia Nights. Rhett was kind, quiet and very generous especially to his niece and nephew. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
