Michael Lancelot Murray

Obituary for Michael Lancelot Murray

Michael Lancelot Murray (Mike), 68, of Valrico Florida, passed away on November 3, 2017, following complications arising from lung cancer. The memorial service will be held at Brandon Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc. at 621 North Parsons Avenue Brandon Florida on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at 3 p.m.

Michael was born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on August 8, 1949, and migrated to North America in 1968. God blessed him with many talents, and he enjoyed working with his hands. Mike was a craftsman and entrepreneur – a painter, a carpenter, and an artful tile layer who trained under the watchful eye of an Italian master. He loved animals – dogs and horses, especially his much-loved thoroughbreds – ‘I like to fly’ and ‘Thirsty for a miracle.’

Michael was married to Isleen Goddard. He was a loving husband and Isleen’s best friend. He was the father of three beautiful daughters – Naomi, Jackie, and Justina. He is survived by his mother, Cynthia Murray, his two sisters and their spouses- Jackie McLear (Andrew); Joanne Mahan (Johnnie). Mike is also survived by his aunt, Stephanie Hinkson, and two uncles – Selwyn Murray and Melvin Lewis. Michael was a grandfather of three – Christian, Albert, and Cameron. He left behind four nephews and three nieces – Andrew McLear, William Charles, Kaleb Charles, Joshua Mahan, Rachel Guilfoyle-Kenny, Natasha McLear-Ahlstrom, and Kimberly McLear-Young. Michael also had ten great-nieces, three great-nephews, and numerous cousins. He is also remembered by his mother-in-law Mrs Lena Goddard and sister-in-law Ms Armetha Goddard.

Michael did not want to pass alone, and the Lord answered his prayer. He transitioned while in the arms of his wife, family, compassionate nurses and technicians who cared for and prayed over him. He yielded peacefully to God’s will and is now at rest in the company of Heaven and the saints. Mike is among family – his grandmother Violet and his uncles Clyde and Lennox. Most of all – he is with Jesus who prepared a place for him in His kingdom. We mourn Michael’s passing, but we also celebrate his life.

Father, we pray that you heal our wounded hearts with your healing touch. Teach us not to mourn as those without hope, but to see beyond death and the grave – to the resurrection and the eternal life assured by Jesus’ victory over death. Grant us the peace to love less material things – and to love more spiritual and eternal things. Teach us to number our days and to apply our hearts to the wisdom of Jesus Christ – that He is the Way and the Truth and the Life – and that no one comes to You but by Him. Father, we are thankful that You blessed us with Michael. Grant us Your peace – in Jesus’ name. Until we meet again in paradise – we love you, Michael!
