Obituary for Major Russell L. Wallace “Maj”

Russell L. Wallace, 71, went to be with the Lord on January 23, 2019 after a long illness. Russ was a long time resident of Bradenton, FL starting at the age of seven. He graduated from Manatee High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and he served in Vietnam.

He gave a lifetime of service to his country, that he loved. He was so proud to be an American. Russ served in the Navy Reserve after graduating from USF. Later, he switched to The Florida Army National Guard, where he retired as a Major after a total of twenty-three years. His civialian job was with Verizon Communication Services. He has been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Jacobite’s Pipes and Drums, and many other great organizations.

Russ was preceded in death by both of his parents, Betty Morrison Wallace and Marion (Wally) Wallace. Russ is survived by his wife of thirty years, Gail Stewart Wallace; daughters, Melissa and Lorie; and two grandchildren. He also has two brothers, Daniel and his twin brother, Richard.

Services will be held on March 1, 2019, 2pm, at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, where he will be laid to rest with well deserved full military honors. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the DAV in Mr. Wallace’s name.
