KENNETH A. ROBERTS, SR.

Obituary for KENNETH A. ROBERTS, SR.

Kenneth A. Roberts Sr. was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 27th, 1926 to David A. Roberts of Boston and Marilyn Glover Roberts of South Carolina. He attended Boston Trade School until he was drafted into the army on April 12th, 1944 and spent thirteen months of World War II stationed on the South Pacific Island of Titan. Classified as ss rifleman during his service. He was honorably discharged on April 30th, 1946 and received the good conduct medal, the Victory Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign ribbon. He returned to Boston from the military and completed his education, becoming a master electrician and worked for Avco, now called Textron, until his retirement. Kenneth Roberts was a young man of movie star looks and as he grew older, he only looked more rugged and no less dashingly handsome. He had to have all that and more to match up with the beautiful woman who was to become his wife, Victoria Underwood Roberts. After a six-year courtship, they were married August 2nd, 1952. The union produced four children, Kenneth Alexander Roberts, Jr. (Kim), Kevin Alan Roberts, both of Los Angeles, California, Karen Anne Roberts Hogan, now of Tampa, Florida, and Keith Ames Roberts, formerly of Boston. Keith, an accomplished singer/actor, predeceased his father in 1996. Mrs. Roberts went home to glory in 1995. She epitomized the wife of Proverbs 31.
Mr. Roberts was a long time member of Saint Mark Congregational Church and was a dutiful and hardworking Deacon. First Sundays he spent countless hours visiting the sick and shut in and providing communion. Kenneth was one of the founding members of “Friends Plus,” a church affiliated organization which sponsored and produced concerts and artistic events, to raise funds for the church. He was an eloquent speaker and narrated many of the Friends Plus events. He had a great sense of humor and would exactly what he meant. He would be the last person to think of himself as a humanitarian. Yet, he was. In his own unassuming way, he was that.
Kenneth, Sr. is survived by his two sons, Kenneth Alexander Roberts, Jr. and Kevin Alan Roberts, his daughter Karen Anne Roberts Hogan, his son-in-law, Charles Sidney Hogan, his grandson Kyle Anthony Roberts, Kyle’s wife Darian Monique Washington Roberts, and his great grandson Kendryx Ernest Roberts, granddaughters, Eboni D’Nay Hogan, Nia Chantel Hogan, and Imani Jada Hogan, and great grandson Avery Kai Spencer as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
