Deborah A. Tubbs

Obituary for Deborah A. Tubbs

Deborah A. Tubbs passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016 after a 3.5 year battle with colon cancer.  She was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in March of 2013.  She fought her disease with determination, courage and faith.  Debbie had a love for travel, reading, NPR, Garrison Keillor, Disney, her four dogs, puzzles, and family games.  She had a sharp sense of humor and a very caring spirit for those less fortunate.  But more than anything, she loved her family.  Debbie trusted in God with childlike innocence, never expressing doubt of life everlasting with all the saints that have gone before us.  As a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, she sang in the choir until her illness took away her mobility.  Debbie was born December 10, 1955 in Tampa, Florida.  The family moved to Columbus, MS when she was 2, and then to Monona, WI when she was 6.  She was a 1974 graduate of Monona Grove High School.  She went on to get her Associate Degree from Madison Business College.  After graduating, she moved to Salt Lake City, UT, and then back to the Tampa Bay area, where she met her future husband Russel Tubbs.  They were married on September 21, 1985 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Monona, WI and made their home in Parma, OH. Debbie worked at various jobs in her adult life, but her passion was being a homemaker and mother.  After she and Russ divorced, she returned to Wisconsin for 9 years, before moving back to Tampa in 2010.  She is survived by her daughter Mary Schwind (Adam, spouse), her grandchildren Alex Schwind and Connor Schwind, her brother Dennis Douglas (Michael Brannan, spouse), an aunt, Jeannine Robertson, and many cousins.  She is also survived by special dear friends Winnie and Jim Clark, Liz, and her church family at St. Paul Lutheran Church.  The family expressly thanks the staff at Moffitt Cancer Center, Sun Rise Village, Palm Gardens in Tampa and Sun City Center, and Life Path Hospice for their outstanding care and compassion throughout Debbie’s journey with disease.  A celebration of Debbie’s life will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 5103 N. Central Ave, Tampa, FL 33603, on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11:00am with Rev. Dr. Russell Meyer officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Debbie’s name to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to Life Path Hospice.
